Patrick Shortell is an accomplished government affairs, communications, and public policy strategist with extensive knowledge and relationships at the regional, state, and municipal levels. Mr. Shortell has built his career by bringing an unprecedented work ethic and drive to accomplish the goals of those he represents.

Mr. Shortell started his career serving as the political director on several successful statewide and local campaigns. The relationships he fostered during this period ultimately provided Mr. Shortell with the opportunity to serve in the public sector as lead policy advisor for then Majority Leader and former Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz. During this time, Mr. Shortell was responsible for advising the Majority Leader, as well as other legislators, on all policy and legislative matters presented to the Connecticut General Assembly. In his role he was able to interact with a wide variety of industry representatives on all pending regulatory and policy related issues.

Following his time with House Democrats, Mr. Shortell worked for both a Fortune 500 company and a clean energy financing company as their primary government relations professional for the northeast region. During this time, Mr. Shortell was responsible for advocating for legislation on behalf of those corporations throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Mr. Shortell’s varied knowledge, relationships, and unique inside understanding of government in Connecticut and surrounding states awards him a unique ability and skill set to best effectively advocate for clients.

Mr. Shortell has a BA from Springfield College in Political Science and Criminal Justice with a minor in Business Management. He attended the University of Connecticut and was a member of the winning Motor City Bowl Football team.

Alice Duket Shortell

Alice Duket Shortell is a Senior Legislative Coordinator at Hillside Strategies who joined the firm in 2019.

As a Senior Legislative Coordinator, Alice is responsible for organizing and coordinating indirect lobbying activities for our government affairs team. These responsibilities include the implementation of our internal bill-tracking system and monitoring the activities of legislative committees, state agencies, and the entire General Assembly. In addition to that work, Alice oversees client services and coordinates real time updates for clients on newly filed amendments, changes made to legislation through committee and floor activity, research, and written materials to support our lobbying activities.

Alice has her B.A in Sociology from Boston College and a Masters in Education from Lesley University.
